FAQ
What Areas Do You Serve?
Born Free Tree Care, LLC serves the Downeast region of Maine from Bangor to Machias, including Ellsworth, Bar Harbor and MDI, Blue Hill, and surrounding towns. If you’re not sure whether you’re in the service area, just reach out with your location and I’ll let you know.
What Services Do You Offer?
I handle most “normal tree stuff” for homes, camps, and landowners, including:
-
Hazard tree removal
-
Tree trimming and pruning
-
Storm clean up and windfall removal
-
Tree assessments and risk evaluations
-
Utility-adjacent tree work (as a licensed Maine utility arborist)
If you have a tree problem and don’t see it listed here, ask—I can usually help or point you in the right direction.
Are You Certified and Insured?
Yes. I am:
-
An ISA Certified Arborist
-
A Licensed Maine Utility Arborist
-
A veteran owned business
-
Fully insured for tree work
That means you’re working with someone trained in safe climbing, rigging, and tree care—not just a random guy with a chainsaw.
Do You Really Climb Trees, or Do You Only Use Heavy Equipment?
I do both, depending on what’s safest for the tree and your property. I climb trees using ropes and professional gear when access is tight or when it’s the safest option. When equipment is appropriate, I’ll use it—but I never force a machine where it doesn’t belong.
Do You Offer Emergency Tree Service or Storm Clean Up?
Yes. When storms hit Downeast Maine, I provide storm clean up and emergency tree work—opening driveways, removing broken limbs from roofs, and dealing with dangerous hangers or partially fallen trees. If it’s an emergency, call or text and mention it in your message so I can prioritize you.
How Do I Know if a Tree is Dangerous or Needs to be Removed?
Signs of a potentially hazardous tree include:
-
Visible cracks or splits in the trunk or major limbs
-
Mushrooms or decay at the base
-
A strong lean, especially if it’s changed recently
-
Large dead branches over your house, driveway, or power lines
-
Root damage after excavation or storms
If you’re unsure, I can perform a tree assessment and talk you through whether pruning, cabling, or removal is the best option.
Do You Provide Written Documentation for Insurance Claims?
Yes. If you’re dealing with storm damage or an insurance claim, I can provide an estimate, description of damage, and invoice that you can submit to your insurance company. Just let me know up front that it’s for a claim.
